Soon, writers and artists will no longer exist beyond a field of generated theft. Anyone who wishes to create is already hushed by free consumption readily available at our fingertips. When our thoughts become stranded from originality and the raw palms of our own hands, creativity becomes useless. Classrooms will fill with children whose minds no longer wonder with ideas, but instead mindlessly submit homework with regurgitated answers not original to them. The youth aren’t encouraged to learn anymore; instead they choose to generate their thoughts. Animation and graphic design jobs are being overtaken, and no one bats an eye because in our economy, alternative options such as AI are cheaper than hiring real individuals. Writers are accused of being frauds, because it is nearly impossible to tell the difference without running it through a machine to check. Slowly, artificial intelligence is taking over our daily lives as well as our mere existence.
As artificial intelligence continues to climb, the factor which sets us apart from other beings becomes less relevant: the ability to mold art from our own boredom and skill is what makes us human. For millennials, our hands have been used to carve and invent; now, futile is an understatement as we forget the importance of their use. Relying on AI is the equivalent to stealing from artists and writers, as the uncanny sense of “artificial” knowledge is in reality, stolen from already existing works. AI, which is trained to generate photos and language, is programmed to scan through online databases to gather information and teach itself how words correspond to images. By gathering artwork and ultimately violating copyright, AI outputs a practically stolen result. Not only is AI discouraging our creativity, but it is also stealing from those that still choose to create. Influentiality is, for a fact, what fuels creation. Though, AI will never be truly capable of being original: it is the result of pasted together theft.
Misinformation through AI software will (and already has begun to) spread like a contagious virus. The mortifying outcome of AI advancing is that eventually, the production of images or even videos will become realistic enough to confuse for reality. Already, older generations struggle to differentiate AI- generated images from realism. Deceit from artificial intelligence is already twisting crucial real-world matters; the results are dangerous and fooling for many. Voice changers, edited videos, and other forms of manipulated media interferes with news and politics. Society cannot come together when it is barricaded by a wall of fraudulence; our voices will become drowned in a sea of counterfeit just as our talent did. Technology as such has already been used with malicious intentions, not only holding hostage the safety of our creativity over our heads but also immoral concerns. Child predators having access to facial recognition and image generation is resulting in a disgusting issue. Framing others for committed crimes through AI is increasingly growing in possibility and effectiveness. Logically, the only tool that could pick apart and scan for AI in these cases would be software fueled by artificial intelligence itself.
Contributing to the rapid growth of AI is easier than one may realize. Utilizing it through the forms of questions or conversation gives it further territory to expand and learn. On the surface, the technology may seem useful; however, the reality of artificial intelligence is a disturbing matter. Unfortunately, we continue to blindly feed into the growing issue: AI will develop until we fully depend on it. Avoiding usage of artificial intelligence is an important contribution to conserving the way our society has functioned in the past without advances. Humans cannot continue to thrive or enjoy life in creative aspects when AI is absorbing the way we exist.
