Hot Springs National Park, home to beautiful thermal springs and a vibrant downtown, is one of only two National Parks in the U.S. in the line of the total eclipse. The solar eclipse on April 8th, 2024, is a remarkable celestial show beginning at 1:49 and passing for 3 minutes and 39 seconds. Hot Springs is estimated to get around 100,000 visitors during the Eclipse weekend, so there’s no doubt that local vendors have amazing events for everyone.

Eclipses are an amazing event to experience, but they can be dangerous without proper protection. Special eyewear for eclipses must be worn when viewing the eclipse, except during the complete totality, when the moon is completely blocking the sun. Additionally, viewing the eclipse through a camera lens, binoculars, or telescope, with no special solar filter placed on the optic, will cause immediate and serious eye damage. Inspect your glasses and check for any rips or tears, as even the smallest hole could cause damage. Regular sunglasses are never a safe alternative for eclipse glasses. Skin safety is also a concern, as the sun is still a danger even during the eclipse. Wearing good sunscreen, hats, and protective clothing is important for skin safety.
